Buying a Pre-Owned Rolex Submariner in Dubai
The Rolex Submariner was introduced in 1953 as a professional diver's watch and set the standard for the category. Its rotating bezel, luminous dial and Oyster case, today water-resistant to 300 metres, made it a tool for divers – and later one of the most recognisable luxury watches in the world.
Today the Submariner is available with and without a date, in steel, two-tone Rolesor and gold. At Ilan Watches in the Dubai Gold District, every watch is inspected by our specialists before it is offered, and you are welcome to view it in our showroom before you decide.
Our 6 watches in stock currently range from AED 49,000 to AED 135,000. All prices include a full inspection by our specialists.

What Makes One Submariner More Expensive Than Another
- Date or no date. The no-date Submariner is usually the entry point; the Submariner Date sits a little higher.
- Reference and generation. The current 41 mm references (124060, 126610LN, 126610LV) and the earlier 40 mm references trade at different price levels; discontinued models such as the 116610LV “Hulk” can even be priced above current ones.
- Bezel colour. Green versions such as the “Hulk” (green dial and bezel) and the “Starbucks” (green bezel, black dial) are often in higher demand than black.
- Metal. Steel is the most common. Two-tone models in steel and yellow gold and full gold models cost more.
- Year, condition and papers. A recent watch with box, papers and an unpolished case is valued higher.

The Rolex Submariner: Why It Was Created and What It Does
When scuba diving became popular in the early 1950s, divers needed a reliable way to know how long they had been underwater – their air supply depended on it. Rolex answered in 1953 with the Submariner, one of the first wristwatches built for diving.
Before a dive, the diver turns the bezel so that the triangle at zero lines up with the minute hand. During the dive, the minute hand then shows the elapsed time directly on the bezel. The bezel turns only anticlockwise: if it is knocked by accident, it can only show a longer dive time, never a shorter one – the safe direction.
Key Features
- Water resistance. 300 metres, with the Triplock screw-down crown.
- Movement. Calibre 3230 (no date) or 3235 (date) with about 70 hours of power reserve in the current models.
- Bezel. Unidirectional rotating bezel with a scratch-resistant ceramic insert.
- Luminescence. Chromalight hands and markers that glow blue in the dark.
- Bracelet. Glidelock extension to adjust the bracelet by up to about 20 mm without tools – even over a wetsuit.

What to Check When Buying a Used Submariner
- Box, papers and warranty date. A full set with the warranty card adds value and shows the purchase date.
- Case and bracelet condition. Look for sharp case edges and a tight bracelet. Heavy polishing reduces value.
- Bezel and insert. The unidirectional bezel should click firmly; ceramic inserts are scratch-resistant but can chip if dropped.
- Service history. Service papers from Rolex or a recognised watchmaker give extra confidence.
