Buying a Pre-Owned Rolex Day-Date in Dubai
The Rolex Day-Date was introduced in 1956 as the first wristwatch to show both the date and the day of the week spelled out in full. Worn by leaders around the world, it is famous for its President bracelet.
The Day-Date is made only in precious metals – yellow gold, white gold, Everose gold and platinum – in 36 and 40 mm. At Ilan Watches in the Dubai Gold District, every watch is inspected by our specialists before it is offered, and you are welcome to view it in our showroom before you decide.
Our 13 watches in stock currently range from AED 36,759 to AED 93,940. All prices include a full inspection by our specialists.
The Rolex Day-Date: Why It Was Created and What It Does
In 1956 Rolex introduced the Day-Date, the first wristwatch to show both the date and the day of the week spelled out in full. Because it was worn by so many presidents and leaders, it became known as the “President”.
The day and date both change instantly at midnight. The day can be displayed in more than 20 languages, including Arabic, English, French, German, Spanish and Russian. The Day-Date is made only in 18 ct gold or platinum, with the President bracelet designed for it.
Key Features
- Movement. Calibre 3255 with about 70 hours of power reserve in the current models.
- Calendar. Day spelled out in full at 12 o'clock in the language of your choice and date at 3 o'clock, both with instant change.
- Water resistance. 100 metres, with a screw-down crown.
- Materials. Yellow gold, white gold, Everose gold or platinum – never steel.
- Bracelet. The President bracelet with semi-circular three-piece links and a concealed Crownclasp.

What to Check When Buying a Used Day-Date
- Box, papers and warranty date. A full set with the warranty card adds value and shows the purchase date.
- Case and bracelet condition. Look for sharp case edges and a tight bracelet. Heavy polishing reduces value.
- Day and date change. The day and date should switch cleanly around midnight; the day can be shown in different languages depending on the dial.
- Service history. Service papers from Rolex or a recognised watchmaker give extra confidence.
