Buying a Pre-Owned Patek Philippe Nautilus in Dubai
The Patek Philippe Nautilus was launched in 1976 with the reference 3700, designed by Gérald Genta. Inspired by a ship's porthole, its integrated bracelet and horizontally embossed dial made it one of the first luxury sports watches.
Today the Nautilus is among the most desired watches in the world, and the steel 5711 has become an icon. At Ilan Watches in the Dubai Gold District, every watch is inspected by our specialists before it is offered, and you are welcome to view it in our showroom before you decide.
Our 10 watches in stock currently range from AED 29,952 to AED 304,788. All prices include a full inspection by our specialists.
The Patek Philippe Nautilus: Why It Was Created and What It Does
In 1976 fine watches were usually thin, gold and made for a suit. Patek Philippe did something new: a luxury sports watch in steel, designed by Gérald Genta. According to the famous story, he sketched it in a hotel restaurant in just a few minutes. Its rounded octagonal bezel was inspired by a ship's porthole.
The Nautilus is meant to be worn every day – elegant enough for a suit and robust enough for a day at sea. The integrated bracelet, the horizontally embossed dial and the thin case make it instantly recognisable.

What to Check When Buying a Used Nautilus
- Box, papers and warranty date. A full set with the warranty card adds value and shows the purchase date.
- Case and bracelet condition. Look for sharp case edges and a tight bracelet. Heavy polishing reduces value.
- Dial and bracelet. Check the embossed dial for marks and the integrated bracelet for stretch; originality of every part matters on a Nautilus.
- Service history. Service papers from Patek Philippe or a recognised watchmaker give extra confidence.
